You kids get out of my yard!

When I was a kid, my dad was pretty big on the yard when it came to my grandfather. Not a holiday went by that my grandfather didn't drive through the grass and my dad didn't fume and fuss. The irony is that my grandfather was no different with his yard, and not a visit there went by where the grandchildren (and son-in-laws) weren't put to work doing anything from picking up sticks to mowing, trimming and raking.

Electing to vote

I did my civic duty this morning and voted in Indiana's primary. And you know what? It feels pretty good.

I feel the earth move under my feet

Of course the big news today was the 5.2-magnitude earthquake that hit the midwest this morning. It was really quite an experience to be awakened in such a manner.

Half it your way

I minored in psychology, and so it always intrigues me when people try to drag out the "is the glass half-empty or half-full" assessment. We all know your answer is supposed to determine whether you're generally a pessimist or an optimist. But come on.

Fresh and clean as a... urinal cake?

This is going to sound bizarre for a moment, but I really do have a point, so bear with me. I was on-site at a client's today, and used their restroom. I must say, it was pretty nice. Very clean. And part of that cleanliness was the air freshener. I know half the population knows that smell because it stems from the urinal cakes. But this wasn't the usual cloying, thickly sweet scent, but something different.

Sons, fathers and religion, part 2

I've been kind of dreading coming back to the blog. I don't know what to say anymore, and the longer I'm away, the harder it is to come back. As much as I love doing this, I'd barely gotten started, and suddenly, it's like the thrill is gone.

And they call it puppy love

My wife took these photos of our dog, and I couldn't not post them. Isn't she just a cutie-pie?!

Give peace a chance

Ever since the weather cooled off, we've been able to turn off the portable AC unit in our bedroom.  And so, for the first time in several months, it's possible to have absolute peace and quiet at night.

Sons, fathers and religion

This wasn't a very good day, but I feel compelled to at least share the one funny thing that did happen.
