We went to a Chinese buffet restaurant yesterday, and this sign struck me as very funny. In particular, I like the quotes around the word "food."

It's almost like someone is standing there giving you a nudge-nudge, wink-wink. "Hey, it's not really (finger-quotes) food (finger-quotes), but it's close enough." Okay, and you gotta love the appeal for humanitarian unity and utopian idealism. Help us! Help the world!

(By the way, we're not really saying thank you. Only something closely approximating it.)

Don't get me wrong, this is my absolute favorite Chinese buffet ever, but it's enough to make you pause if you're really paying attention. And who's paying attention when you walk in and are assaulted with so many oh-so-wonderful smells?! And when presented with a Mongolian barbeque gratis with paid admission?!

Ooh, I so do love that Mongolian barbeque. I probably set my New Year's resolutions back a decade or so, but it's worth it. I'm not sure what it is, but it's definitely worth it. Oh yeah.
