I've been meaning to post for some time, and just never got around to it. It seems some explanation is in order.

First, the whole Hoover thing. See, Freshman was originally created to run in my college paper. I had a friend and fraternity brother on staff who was gonna get me published. But I never got around to it. I developed a cast of characters and outlined a general script for the first several weeks of comics (which I ended up using when I finally made Freshman an online comic). I'd always had in the back of my mind this idea that Freshman (originally called North Jordan for the street at IU where the greek houses are located) would eventually evolve into a sort of collegiate Bloom County complete with talking animals and pop culture references. The only animal character I developed was the duck, who at the time had no name.

When I went online with Freshman, I discarded the animals and stuck with a closer version of reality. But with the merging of Off The Wall and Freshman I realized I had my chance to go back to things long forgotten. Back came the duck, who still had no name.

So as I was planning a series of comics introducing the duck, I knew he needed a name. For some reason, Hoover just came to me out of the blue, which was fortunate because it gave me a ready-made joke. I'd always envisioned him as sarcastic and probably unscrupulous. It's both fun and easy to write.

I really have no plans from here. I'll do a Jordan/Hoover comic whenever the fancy strikes me. Maybe I'll do more animals, maybe not. You know, whatever.

Finally, a word on this one. Actually, I've already written several words, so I'll not repeat myself.
