All You'll Ever Need

From the Michael Andrew album Whispers

About

This song was mainly an improvisation. I recorded the drums first, then the rhythm guitars and bass, and the piano. Up to this point, I had only the first two lines, suggested mainly by the chord progression. The title didn't even come until I finished writing the first verse. After that, of course, it was a little easier. The bridge was originally the eventual bridge of Don't Let Me Go and the solo was an electric guitar. If pressed for a main idea, I would have to say the song is about appreciating what you've got, saying "don't take anything for granted or you'll lose it. But if you do, I'm here to help you get back on your feet."

Lyrics

Don't be thinking that love is just a game
Don't be thinking that you will be the same
You tell me you wish you had an answer
I wish that I could make you see
That all you ever wanted is all you'll ever need

Don't be looking for comfort that you can't give
Don't be dreaming of lives that you don't live
I know you're searching for a reason
I don't see why you have to be
When all you ever wanted is all you'll ever need

It doesn't take much to lose your mind
And I can't tell you what to do
I can only put your feet on the ground
The rest is up to you

Don't keep hoping that time will bring a change
For somewhere inside memories will remain
I know you're waiting for an answer
I wish that I could make you see
That all you ever wanted is all you'll ever need
