No Song (Left In Me)

From the Michael Andrew album Four Play
Words and music by Michael Andrew Itzoe

About

Autobiographical. I was just sitting at the piano one day, suffering from a depressing bout of writer's block, wishing I could write something, anything. Then, from out of the blue, it hit me: why not write about writer's block? "No Song" wrote itself after that. So this one's basically about writer's block.

Lyrics

There's no song left in me
Only a hole where a song should be
All the words have been sung
And the melodies are done
Now there's no song left in me

I've got no tune, I've got no rhyme
It don't mean a thing if I'm keeping time
I don't want to play a note
Or the last verse that I wrote
'Cause there's no song left in me

Every harmony brings back memories
And no one seems to understand
'Cause every song I write with every sleepless night
It all leads me back to you, side by side
Hand in hand, and

There's no song left in me
Only a flat in the key of B
Now I'm going to drown my doubts
Yeah, that's what it's all about
'Cause there's no song left in me
No, there's no song left in me
