You Don't Have To Explain

From the Michael Andrew album Four Play
Words and music by Michael Andrew Itzoe

About

This one was also written during Michael Andrew, I think around the same time as Jefra Daye and Spread It Around. I was watching Disney's The Great Mouse Detective, and Melissa Manchester performs a song, I think it's called "Let Me Be Good To You," that's this old-west honkey tonk thing, and its got this great bass line played on tuba, so that gave me ideas while recording this one.

Lyrics

You don't have to explain
It doesn't matter anyway
You don't have to explain
Everybody acts that way some time
So don't explain

You don't have to pretend
It doesn't matter anymore
You don't have to pretend
Everybody hits the floor some time
So don't pretend

There are people who will call your bluff
There are people who will make demands
But you've got to understand
You've only had to please yourself
And no one else

Don't try to explain
It doesn't matter anyhow
You don't have to explain
It happens every now and then
So don't explain

There are people who will knock you down
There are people who will make mistakes
Once you know it's all it takes
Then you've had to please yourself
And no one else

Don't try to explain
It doesn't matter anymore
Don't try to explain
Everybody hits the floor sometime
So don't explain
